Last week signified a significant advancement in the provision of Women Services in the North East of England. Following thorough discussions with the Ministry of Justice, the Wise Group are now positioned to offer essential support to unsentenced women.
This initiative complements our existing support for sentenced women at HMP Low Newton.
The contract now allows us to deliver further support, not only to women in County Durham but also to those out of area highlighting the critical role of early intervention with the aim of reducing reoffending.
The experience of being remanded in prison is particularly detrimental for women, as evidenced by an increase in incidents of self-injury among women on remand last year, marking the highest figure in several years.
Our service delivery model will involve daily presence within HMP Low Newton to support women and foster collaborative relationships with prison staff, all aimed at serving the best interests to those involved.
As our enterprise continues to grow, the additional support will empower our mentors to provide holistic support to a greater number of women, aligning with our new strategy in transforming more peoples lives.
