Out of work young people in Newcastle upon Tyne are gaining the skills they need to find employment thanks to Talent Match and Food Nation.
Food Nation provides education and training in the food and hospitality sector to people in the North East, which was perfect for some of the young people on Talent Match who had identified food preparation as one of the areas they would like to find work in.
During the week long course young people learned various skills that will be valuable in their search for work, as well as visiting businesses in the sector to get a deeper understanding of the work involved.
Youth Programme Manager at Food Nation, Kristy Whittle said “We have been teaching [the young people] a variety of seafood preparation skills, including filleting fish, preparing mussels and we have also gone to a fishcake factory.”
The week culminated in providing lunch for the busy Wise Group office on the final day, giving the young people real world experience of working to a schedule in the fast paced food industry. The food was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone at the Wise Group. Watch the video below to see the fantastic work done by everyone involved.
Talent Match is an employability programme aimed at helping the hardest to reach young people in North East of England find work, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and managed by the Wise Group. Find out more about Talent Match here.
